Unichar is my new project, a hot-or-not style ranking system for Unicode characters.
As votes are made, an aesthetic begins to form, as you can see by looking at the Top 10 as it is today:
1. ൡ (MALAYALAM LETTER VOCALIC LL)
2. ɷ (LATIN SMALL LETTER CLOSED OMEGA)
3. ळ (DEVANAGARI LETTER LLA)
4. ꉎ (YI SYLLABLE HXAT)
5. ఆ (TELUGU LETTER AA)
6. ଋ (ORIYA LETTER VOCALIC R)
7. ತ (KANNADA LETTER TA)
8. ജ (MALAYALAM LETTER JA)
9. ට (SINHALA LETTER ALPAPRAANA TTAYANNA)
10. ॔ (DEVANAGARI ACUTE ACCENT)
These are all forms defined by their curves — with one exception, #10. #10 is just the accent, but perhaps people are reading the dotted circle as part of the letter, instead of as a placeholder. I’m curious if the attraction to curved forms will continue as the project lives on, or why it is that we’re drawn to these shapes.
